Joe Hisaishi is coming to the Netherlands
In March 2025, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra will welcome one of the biggest names in contemporary Japanese music: composer and conductor Joe Hisaishi. For the first time in his career, Hisaishi will conduct a concert in the Netherlands.
On Friday, March 28, and Saturday, March 29, he will take the audience at De Doelen on an enchanting musical journey through his own works, with a highlight featuring music from the iconic animated film Spirited Away. Tickets for the concerts are now available at the bottom of the page.
Joe Hisaishi is globally acclaimed for his compositions for films like Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Howl's Moving Castle, Kiki's Delivery Service, and Ponyo, which have touched generations of viewers and won numerous international awards. His compositions are known for their rich melodies, deep emotion, and a refined balance between Western and Japanese musical elements, making his work a cultural phenomenon.
In Rotterdam, Hisaishi will take the stage alongside the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra to conduct a breathtaking program. The repertoire includes a composition by Maurice Ravel (La Valse), new original works by Hisaishi, including an Adagio for strings and two harps, a harp concerto, and Hisaishi’s own Spirited Away Suite.
