Tarmo Peltokoski
Principal guest conductor with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra
‘Astonishing, breathtaking, tear-jerking beauty. Even writing about it brings back goosebumps,’ NRC wrote last spring about his debut with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. ‘Tarmo Peltokoski. Write that name down.’ And so we did, Tarmo put his signature to it, and that means he will be our principal guest conductor starting season 2023-2024.
Shortly after his debut, Rotterdam got a second taste of this phenomenal Finnish talent (2000). Tarmo conducted the orchestra again, ‘with electrifying effect,’ according to de Volkskrant. With a dazzling piano improvisation he set the foyer and the Steinway of de Doelen on fire. In a video interview he talked about his love for movies, his click with Yuja Wang (which is clearly mutual, as we could see for ourselves) and his admiration for Wagner. Someone to look forward to, that much became clear right away.
This season he’s ready. Tarmo joins as a principal guest conductor in Rotterdam. Yuja Wang, Richard Wagner and the composers of Hollywood are waiting for him. It’s going to be pure bliss. For those who hadn't already: Tarmo Peltokoski, write that name down.
