Chen Reiss
Lahav Shani and Mahler 4

The Israeli soprano Chen Reiss (1979) began her vocal studies in Israel before moving to New York at the age of twenty. After New York she joined the Bavarian State Opera under the mentorship of none other than Zubin Mehta, where her career developed rapidly. Here are a few of the renowned world orchestras and conductors with whom she has cooperated: Gustavo Dudamel with the Munich Philharmonic, Zubin Mehta with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Vladimir Jurowski with the Berlin Radio Symphony.
In the Netherlands, she made a big impression with Dutch National Opera in Mozart's Zauberflöte. She triumphed as a Mahler soloist with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. But in Rotterdam, she has never performed before. We made up for that hugely: Chen Reiss was Artist in Residence with our orchestra in season 2023-2024. In three symphonic concert programs and a Valentine's recital with Lahav Shani, she sang songs and arias by her favourite composers. Mozart and Mahler, but also Berg, Korngold and Strauss.
