Martine Velthuis
Academy 2023-2024
Hi! My name is Martine, I was born in the east of The Netherlands in the year 2000. I started playing violin when I was 7 and studied in The Hague for the last 5 years. I am raised in a musical family and because of this I started singing before I could talk or walk. In my spare time I enjoy playing piano, singing, making musical stories for children or hiking in the nature, especially in the mountains. I am looking forward to start playing in the academy of my dream orchestra.
Martine Velthuis (2000) started taking violin lessons at the age of 7. In September 2013 she entered the young talent class of the ARTEZ conservatory in Zwolle, where she was taught the violin by Sylvia van der Grinten. In 2015 Martine won the first prize and the audience award at the Prinses Christina Competition region east. Martine also appeared as soloist with Symfonia Jong Twente, Euregio Symphonieorchester, the Arcata string ensemble and with the Britten Youth String Orchestra. From 2016 to 2018, she was also concertmaster with Jeugdorkest Nederland (JON).
In 2018, she began her studies in classical violin at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, where Ilona Sie Dhian Ho was her teacher. Several projects, including one in the form of concertmaster with the National Youth Orchestra (NJO), and with the Gustav Mahler Jugend Orchester conducted by Daniele Gatti, introduced Martine to several major venues in Europe, such as the Musikverein in Vienna, and the Kultur Palast in Dresden. This season we are pleased to welcome Martine to the Academy of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.
