Enigma Variations
Edward Elgar and John Williams: two masters of evocative music.
In the Enigma Variations, Edward Elgar portrayed his dearest friends. Each of the fourteen movements – one affectionately teasing, another intimate and glowing – is a portrait in its own right; together they form a magnificent ode to friendship. Film composers such as John Williams have drawn inspiration from them when writing their own musical character sketches, from E.T. and Indiana Jones to Luke and Darth Vader.
