Robert Franenberg retires

After 40 years on stage with our orchestra, we bid farewell to our bassist Robert Franenberg.

Last Friday, during the concert with our honorary conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin, we not only celebrated the music but also said goodbye to our bassist Robert Franenberg. After 40 years on stage with our orchestra, Robert performed his final concert in Rotterdam. Thanks to musicians like Robert, we have always been able to play with ambition and passion, and his dedication has deeply inspired our orchestra.

Although we have said farewell to Robert as a member of our orchestra, his career is far from over. He will continue performing with the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, of which he has been a part for many years. Together with his wife, Maggie Urquhart, he leads the bass section. He will also remain involved with the Netherlands Bach Society and will continue making chamber music with his own Orangerie Ensemble, in which his daughter Isabel, a violist, also plays.

So, the music goes on — and we look forward to hearing more from him!
Thank you, Robert, for everything you have meant to us. We wish you a wonderful, well-deserved retirement.
