What kind of performances do we offer in Rotterdam?
Looking for something fun to do with your kids in Rotterdam? As a parent, you’ve probably asked yourself this question more than once. You’ve been to every playground, the weather isn’t great, and you’re looking for something special. That’s when you wonder: what’s left to do with my kids? The children’s performances by the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra are one of Rotterdam’s best-kept secrets. Each season, we present a magical series of concerts for young and old in the beautiful concert hall of De Doelen. You may not have known this as a parent!
Do you and your children enjoy going to the theater or musicals? Our program features a diverse selection of theater and music, specially curated for children aged 3 to 12. They’ll be taken on a magical journey, filled with exciting adventures and unforgettable moments.

We have a wonderful year-round program tailored for our young visitors. We perform shows in April, September, November, December (2025), February, and March (2026). This way, you never have to wait too long for the next opportunity to visit De Doelen with your kids. The concerts are often scheduled on a Saturday or Sunday, but we also occasionally program performances on a Wednesday during the week. And of course, we take school holidays into account, so you can enjoy a children’s performance with the whole family during the autumn break, Christmas break, or spring break. Below, you will find our concert agenda and discover exactly when each performance takes place.
Who do we collaborate with for our children’s performances?
We work together with experienced actors known from The BZT Show, Apennoten, and Theatro Concerto. The brilliant musicians of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra bring these stories to life, making our children’s performances a unique and immersive experience. And all of this takes place on the stunning stage of De Doelen.

The pre-show program for our productions in the Grote Zaal is generally more extensive than the pre-show program in the Kleine Zaal.

Our children’s performances are designed for children aged 3 years and up or 4 years and up, depending on the specific performance. We always indicate this clearly in the title on our concert pages with the labels 3+ or 4+, so you can easily see the recommended age for each show at a glance.
The price for children’s performances ranges on average between €12.50 and €31.00 per person. Prices vary depending on the seating category you choose and the hall where the performance takes place. A ticket is required for each visitor.
The performances usually last about an hour, sometimes a bit shorter. Based on our experience, this is manageable for younger children and long enough to be enjoyable for older children.
Each season, we have around 5 or 6 children’s performances in our program. These performances are spread throughout the year. At the top of this page, you can find our current selection, or visit our agenda.
In De Doelen, we use two halls for our performances: the Great Hall (Grote Zaal) and the Jurriaanse Hall (Jurriaanse Zaal). Some performances take place in the Great Hall, while others are held in the smaller Jurriaanse Hall. Want to know where a specific performance is held?
