For two centuries, Vienna was the musical capital of the world. Mozart wrote his late masterpieces there, including the otherworldly beautiful Symphony No. 40. Korngold and Berg caused a stir with their early songs, youthful works of intoxicating beauty. And Webern, with his colourful orchestration of the Ricercar, showed how Bach might have sounded if he had been a Viennese.
