Resurrection of the Dead
A cathedral of sound and light: radiant wind symphonies in the Laurenskerk.
Some music is too vast for the concert hall. A glacier seemed to Messiaen the ideal setting for his grandiose Et exspecto resurrectionem, or else a very large church. For this concert, we therefore chose the St. Lawrence Church. There Messiaen’s magnum opus, written in memory of the victims of the two World Wars, is joined by two equally monumental symphonies for wind band and the exquisite Syrinx for solo flute.
