International Conducting Competition Rotterdam
Meet the new generation of top conductors
In the spring of 2022 it will finally be time for the first edition of the International Conducting Competition Rotterdam. During the selection rounds in 2021, six fantastic conductors have been selected from 165 applications from all over the world who will make their appearance in de Doelen.
Carlos Ágreda (Colombia), Bertie Baigent (United Kingdom), Martijn Dendievel (Belgium), Chloe Rooke (United Kingdom), Joel Sandelson (United Kingdom) and Luis Toro Araya (Chile) show their expertise in five thematic rounds. They conduct several top orchestras: the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, Sinfonia Rotterdam, the DoelenEnsemble and Laurens Symfonisch.
More than 30 names have joined the competition as jury members, including Karina Canellakis, Ton Koopman, James MacMillan, Lahav Shani and Maxim Vengerov. In addition, the public can also vote for their favorite.

Programme & performers
ICCR consists of 5 rounds. The Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra will play in round 4 (opera) on Wednesday 1 June and round 5 (final) on Friday 3 June with the six conductors. Read more about the programme below.
Both concerts will be streamed on the YouTube channel and the Facebook page of ICCR, www.iccr.nl, Medici, ViolinChannel, Amadeus (Chinese TV), BBC Music Magazine, Takt1 and on the NTR website.
Wednesday 1 June: round 4 (opera)
The ultimate test: in this round the conductors not only work with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, but also with Laurens Symfonisch and five singers from the International Vocal Competition 's-Hertogenbosch. On the lectern is Bizet's masterpiece Carmen!
Friday, June 3: Round 5 (final)
Experience the climax of the International Conducting Competition Rotterdam! At the Grande Finale, the conductors will again work with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. This time the assignment work of Joey Roukens Night Flight is central. In addition, parts from the Sixth Symphony by Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich' Fifth Symphony and Mahler's Fourth Symphony. The prizes will be awarded at the end of the evening.
